Description
Prolong the edge and condition of your axes and tools. The Sharp Pebble sharpening stone puck is comprised of a ceramic dual sided abrasive with fine and coarse grinding capabilities. The coarse 150-grit black side is used for repairing damage from hard wear and coarsely sharpening dull edges. The fine 320-grit green side is used to restore slightly dull cutting edges and enhance the finish left by the coarse side on your tool. The Sharp Pebble sharpening stone puck is not just dedicated to axes, it is a multi-purpose stone capable of sharpening a variety of tools from machetes, bushcraft tools, knives, shovels, lawnmower blades and other cutting & chopping tools.
Premium quality 100% silicon carbide material is used to produce the Sharp Pebble sharpening stone puck, developed with a grain structure that is built tough and long-lasting. The sharpening stone can be used wet or dry, however ideally wet as the moisture provides a lubricant on the surface that can eliminate friction, improves the sharpening stone power and can prevent damage to the stone itself.
Maintenance:
The ergonomic design of the Sharp Pebble sharpening stone puck makes it easy to grip and allows for a safe & easy sharpening experience. Wearing safety equipment and gloves where appropriate, hold the puck firmly with thumb and fingers whilst supporting it by the palm of the hand. Move the puck in a circular motion, overlapping the circles as you move along the entire cutting edge to be sharpened. The sharpening stone uses high temperature friction and corrosion resistant material to remove burrs and consolidate the sharpness of the blade of most tools.
Axes are very long-lasting tools that don’t require a lot of maintenance. However, a few little tricks can greatly extend the lifespan of your axe. Before storing the axe for a long period of time the blade should be lightly greased to prevent corrosion on the surface. Axes keep best when stored at normal humidity. If the wood dries out, it shrinks and looses it’s ability to flex and absorb vibrations. Similarly, too humid conditions can harm the wood aswell. Never soak a loose handle in water to re-attach it to the head, instead, seek professional assistance.
- Always grind the axe according to it’s intended area of use and try to maintain the original shape and grind angle.
- Remove larger damages with a file at first. In doing so the radius and shape of the cutting edge cannot change, because otherwise the entire edge needs to be reworked.
- Afterwards, take your Sharp Pebble Sharpening Stone Puck and grind the cutting edge with the coarse side of the stone until the original shape is retained.
- Then sharpen the blade with the finer side of the stone and polish away the scratches that the coarse grind may have created. Applying some grease to the surface will help create a smoother finish of your tool.
- The cutting edge needs to be exactly centered and ground evenly on both sides to avoid an uneven edge.
